The Bilt Mastercard® (review) is a valuable no annual fee card that I recently picked up. The card lets you pay your rent by credit card and earn rewards, even if your landlord doesn’t ordinarily allow no-fee credit card payments. For us homeowners, you can potentially even pay your HOA this way.

There are many innovative things about Bilt, including that there’s a Bilt Rent Day promotion on the first day of each month. With it now being the first day of the month, we’ve just seen the Bilt Rent Day promotion for March 2024 launched. While it’s not the most exciting offer (it’s not a transfer bonus of up to 150%!), it’s an easy opportunity to earn 2,000 Bilt Rewards points.

Details of the March Bilt Rent Day promotion

There are a couple of aspects to the Bilt Rent Day promotion, including the ability to earn bonus points (which is the same every month) plus one additional promotion.

Note that Bilt Rent Day promotions are generally valid from 12:00AM ET until 11:59PM PT, so technically you have around 27 hours to take advantage of them.

Earn 2-6x Bilt points on Rent Day purchases

Ordinarily the Bilt Mastercard earns 1-3x points per dollar spent, as you earn 3x points on dining, 2x points on travel, and 1x points on all other purchases. On the first day of each month, you earn double those rewards, meaning you earn 6x points on dining, 4x points on travel, and 2x points on all other purchases (except rent, where you earn 1x points).

With this offer, you can earn up to 10,000 bonus points each month. Keep in mind that you need to use your Bilt Mastercard five times each statement period in order to earn these points. It could be worth strategically making some purchases on the first day of each month to maximize this as much as possible.

Earn 2,000 bonus points for linking other cards

Unfortunately for March, Bilt isn’t offering a transfer bonus as its monthly Rent Day offer. However, this promotion does provide an easy way to earn up to 2,000 bonus points, with no spending required.

Specifically, you can earn 1,000 bonus points when you link a credit card or debit card to your Bilt account, up to two cards. It can take up to 72 hours for points to post, and you can only earn this bonus for cards not previously linked.

There’s no need to actually do anything with the card, but rather it just has to be linked. That’s an easy opportunity to earn bonus points. Admittedly some people might not be comfortable sharing that data with a third party, and that’s fair. We all have a price, and I think my price is right around 1,000 points per card, so this offer works for me. 😉

To take advantage of this, just go to the “Wallet” section of the Bilt app, and then click the “Link additional cards” section, where you can add your card number(s).

On top of that, Bilt Platinum and Gold members can earn 5x points on groceries today, valid for up to 2,000 points. There’s no registration required.

Bottom line

On the first day of each month, those with the Bilt Mastercard can take advantage of the monthly Rent Day promotion. In addition to earning up to double points for purchases, for March 2024, there’s the opportunity to earn up to 2,000 bonus points for linking credit or debit cards to your Bilt account. On top of that, Bilt Platinum and Gold members can earn 5x points on groceries today, for up to 2,000 points.

Do you plan on taking advantage of the Bilt Rent Day promotion for March?

Made a travel purchase the first day of the month. Charge did not clear until 2 days later. Did not get the double points. They should honor this. Else, you'll have to guess when to make the purchase, so it'll clear on the first. Either that, or give you a grace period.

Thank you for this! I beat the deadline by :56 minutes.

More a general OMAAT comment: it would be AWESOME if the Table of Content items were hyperlinked both in the email daily digest and once you open up the digest. Similar to
other bloggers. Have tried sending an email with this suggestion, but to no avail!

Yes! (I 've always thought that there was something wrong with my email platform that was somehow stripping out the hyperlinks.) This would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance for taking this suggestion under advisement.

Ben, can you do a post on linking other credit cards to a Bilt account? This is very confusing and I don’t understand it at all. What are the advantages to doing this? I thought if I linked my CSP, for example, and the used that card for dining that I would get 3x chase points PLUS 3x Bilt points. Now I’m finding out that isn’t the case. What’s the point of linking then. So confusing!

Is it safe to assume that I can buy a gift card from my grocery store and have it count as 5x?

    1. Steve Guest

I've always had this work when buying cards from a grocery store using Ink to get 5x so don't see why not. Of course there is always a small chance that some store has a weird way of selling gift cards where they don't use their normal system.

Curious - what data are they able to collect that makes this worthwhile to them?

  8. Sarthak Guest

Ben - thanks for this. Do you know if this could be targeted? Definitely doing this but didn’t receive an email with a heads up about this.

@ Sarthak -- This month was a bit different, since Bilt let people vote on which perk they want. But this is available to everyone, and you should see it mentioned when you open the Bilt app. :-)

      Thanks for the clarification!
