Chase Sapphire Preferred offering 60,000 points
The Chase Sapphire Preferred has a welcome offer of 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $4,000 within the first three months.
Ultimate Rewards points can be redeemed for a minimum of 1.25 cents each toward travel through the Chase Travel Portal, meaning 60,000 points will get you at least $750 in travel. However, personally I value Ultimate Rewards points at 1.7 cents each thanks to the other ways to redeem them, so to me this bonus is worth ~$1,020.
Who is eligible for the Chase Sapphire Preferred bonus?
You can be approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred if:
- You don’t currently have a Chase Sapphire card (Preferred or Reserve)
- You haven’t received a new cardmember bonus on a Chase Sapphire card (Preferred or Reserve) in the past 48 months
Note that this is based on whether you’re the primary cardmember on one of these cards — if you’re currently an authorized user (or have been one in the past), you’d be eligible. Also keep in mind the general rules of applying for Chase cards, including the 5/24 rule (though there are some reports of people being approved in spite of being over the 5/24 limit).
See this post for more details on eligibility requirements for the Sapphire Preferred.
Why the Chase Sapphire Preferred is worth it
The $95 annual fee Chase Sapphire Preferred is one of the most well-rounded mid-range cards out there. The card has the following perks, among other things:
- The Sapphire Preferred has an amazing rewards structure — earn 5x points on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3x points on dining, streaming services, and online grocery store purchases (excluding Target, Walmart, and wholesale clubs), 2x points on travel purchases, and 1x points on all other purchases
- The Sapphire Preferred has great travel protection, including for delayed flights, lost bags, rental cars, and more
- The Sapphire Preferred acts as a good “hub” card for Chase Ultimate Rewards, and lets you maximize the other cards in the portfolio
- The Sapphire Preferred offers flexible points that can be transferred to a Chase Ultimate Rewards airline or hotel partner, or can be redeemed at 1.25 cents each toward a travel purchase
- The Sapphire Preferred offers a $50 hotel credit every cardmember year, usable through the Chase Travel Portal

Bottom line
The Chase Sapphire Preferred is offering a welcome bonus of 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points upon completing minimum spending. 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points will get you a minimum of $750 toward travel, though in reality you can get much more value than that with Chase’s transfer partners.
In my opinion this is the most well-rounded mid-range credit card out there.
Do you plan on picking up the Chase Sapphire Preferred with 60K bonus points?
Looks like they pulled it well before 9 AM on May 25th. As of May 24th at 8 PM it's back down to 60k points instead of the 80k.
Thanks for the heads up. Downgraded this week, since I'm long past 4 years for a UR bonus, will reapply early next week.
Ben, you write this about the end of this offer: Now we do — it has been revealed that the current bonus will be pulled as of 9AM EST on May 25, 2023.
We are not on Standard Time. Standard Time ended in March when we "sprung ahead" to Daylight Saving Time. Saying EST/PST/CST is really only correct from November to March when we are in fact on Standard Time, or in any locale that...

To prevent this and other confusion, the best thing to do is just say "Eastern" or "ET", etc. We are not on Standard Time and will not be until we "fall back" in November.
Ben/Tiff: I tried to be subtle about it, but YinDaoYan means "vXgina infection" in Mandarin. The avatar could look like a graphic of that.
It's borderline racist to keep this poster and, decision of all decisions, bring them back after a ban.
Enough!
Trigger alert!
Not to say I'm a fan of the term or the graphic, but "racist"... please.
Anyways, if Ben is going to ban anyone, he should start with that Hilton shill.
My referral link shows this 80k offer, any idea how long referral links are good for?
Yes, 90k in branch is better, unless you're in two player mode. In that case P2 can get 80k and I'll get 15k for the referral.
Great question on timing was wondering the same thing on how long these offers typically last? Expecting a large credit score bump next week.
I've had the Sapphire card for 6+ years. If i cancel that card and apply again would I be eligible for the bonus? Thanks!
I'd like to know this as well - I've had the base Sapphire for years now and it's a great fee-free card, but I kinda feel like having it screws me out of offers like this. On the other hand, I'm not keen on the idea of canceling a card and taking the hit to my score just for the sake of points. vOv
i had the base sapphire and they for sure do not let you have this card. i got denied a year ago and cancelled my base card. will try to walk into a chase branch and try this...
Does anyone know if closing a card forfeits the insurance protections?
Example:
- today, I pay for my ski trip for Jan ‘24 on my CSR
- Next week I close the account
- During the trip in January, something goes wrong. I paid for the entire trip with my CSR that is now closed.
Am I covered?
Thanks
Have always wondered this. Assume insurance is tied to your status on the date of purchase (not date of travel), but would love to know if anyone's filed such a claim.
The bonus was 100k when I applied in Jun 2021
Can you point me to the nearest time machine?
the best publicly available offer is to go to a Chase branch for the 90k...
True, but I think the spend is $6k vs $4k, which isn't a huge deal.
10k points are worth barely over $100. You're going to spend the better part of an hour getting to and from the branch, waiting in line, declining all the upsells and cross-sells, risking the banker inputting the wrong information or applying you for the wrong card, which is a very difficult problem to remedy (see the latest comment on Doctor of Credit's post for this offer). And having an incentive to spend an extra $2k...

And having an incentive to spend an extra $2k means you're probably going to spend a lot of extra money on goods you don't need. Almost none of us has the self control to not over-spend when trying to meet a signup bonus offer.
That is not the point. The point is there is a higher bonus points publicly available offer available. Personal spending habit has no relevance. We all know why it’s not mentioned but seems tacky.
If it says the best available online offer, then maybe…
But no referral for in branch offer. We are in 2 player mode, so P2 gave me a 15K referral. Therefore 95K points for $4k spend, instead of 90K for $6k spend.
