Which Routes Feature ANA’s New Boeing 777 Cabins?

In the summer of 2019, Japanese Star Alliance carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA) revealed an all new first & business class product. In this post I wanted to take an updated look at ANA’s progress with installing these new cabins, especially with the winter 2023 travel schedule starting shortly.

Tourism to Japan has been booming since the country reopened its borders to foreign visitors, and I know many people are planning trips with ANA. Hopefully many OMAAT readers will be able to enjoy the carrier’s new cabins.

Basics of ANA’s new first & business class

All Nippon Airways’ new first class & business class products are truly spectacular. ANA has always had incredible service, and now the airline finally has a hard product to match.

All Nippon Airways’ new first class, known as “The Suite,” is phenomenal. The hard product as such doesn’t look that amazing, but it’s a huge improvement over the old product. First class has eight very comfortable suites, each of which is functionally designed and private. Personally I rank this as the world’s third best first class, thanks largely to ANA’s top notch soft product.

All Nippon Airways’ new business class, known as “The Room,” is really what’s most revolutionary. The seats have doors and an unreal amount of personal space. I consider this to be one of the world’s best business class products, along with Qatar Airways Qsuites.

Which flights have ANA’s new first & business class?

While there are certain markets where All Nippon Airways consistently offers the new cabins, we have seen some variance. So let me share the basics of how many ANA 777s have the new cabins, how you can tell if your flight features the new cabins, and finally which routes currently feature the new cabins (though of course that’s subject to change).

How many ANA 777s have new first & business class?

All Nippon Airways has 15 Boeing 777-300ERs in its fleet. Nine of the 15 jets currently feature the new cabins, meaning that 60% of ANA’s 777-300ERs have the new first & business class. Six of these planes have been delivered to the airline since 2019, with the new cabins, while three 777-300ERs have been reconfigured with the new cabins (these planes are 10+ years old).

Unfortunately ANA doesn’t have any concrete plans to reconfigure the remaining six 777-300ERS in the near future, so don’t expect this product’s footprint to grow much for the time being. ANA is expected to eventually take delivery of new 777-9s, which will likely feature this product (or something even better), though that’s still several years down the road.

If you want to track registration codes, the following nine Boeing 777-300ERs feature the new cabins:

How can you tell if an ANA flight has the new cabins?

You can tell whether or not your flight is scheduled to feature All Nippon Airways’ new cabins just by looking at the seatmap. The easiest way to tell is to look at the business class seatmap:

  • The new business class cabin has 64 seats, while the old cabin has either 52 or 68 seats
  • If the business class cabin goes to row 20, then it’s the new business class; otherwise it’s the old business class
Business class on reconfigured 777s goes to row 20

If you’re on ANA’s website and a flight is scheduled to be operated with the new cabins, you’ll also see the prominent display of “THE SUITE” for first class and “THE ROOM” for business class.

ANA’s website shows when a flight features new cabins

Again, it’s only select Boeing 777-300ERs that have these cabins. You won’t find these cabins on other aircraft, including 787s, A380s, etc.

Which routes have ANA’s new 777 cabins?

Here are the routes that are expected to be operated by the new Boeing 777-300ERS for the 2023 winter schedule (which runs from late October 2023 until late March 2024):

  • Tokyo Haneda (HND) to London (LHR) for NH211/212 — all frequencies
  • Tokyo Haneda (HND) to New York (JFK) for NH109/110 and NH159/160 — all frequencies
  • Tokyo Haneda (HND) to San Francisco (SFO) for NH107/108 — all frequencies until December 31, 2023
  • One of the reconfigured 777s is in a special Pokemon livery, and this aircraft will additionally fly select frequencies between Tokyo Narita (NRT) and San Francisco (SFO) for NH7/8, select frequencies between Tokyo Narita (NRT) and Chicago (ORD) for NH11/12, and select frequencies between Tokyo Haneda (HND) and Chicago (ORD) for NH111/112

In other words, as it stands, all flights to London and New York, as well as select flights to San Francisco and Chicago, will feature the new cabins for the winter 2023 schedule. However, the new 777s flying to San Francisco and Chicago are the exception rather than the norm, so check seatmaps carefully. Houston, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Washington, are scheduled to be served by Boeing 787s.

There’s always the chance for last minute aircraft swaps, especially for later in winter, as ANA does tend to tweak its schedule.

ANA’s incredible first class catering

Bottom line

All Nippon Airways introduced a phenomenal new first & business class in 2019, and the airline has rolled this out to 60% of its 777-300ER fleet. Unfortunately at this point there are no plans to reconfigure more jets with these cabins.

For the winter 2023 schedule, you can expect the new cabins to be offered on all flights to London and New York, as well as on select flights to San Francisco and Chicago. While you’ll always want to check the seatmap for changes or aircraft swaps, that’s the current plan.

If you’ve flown ANA’s new 777s, what was your experience like?

By these pictures it looks like business class cabin is better than first?

The Room offering for the SF route has unfortunately moved from HND to NRT.

Hey, just curious where you got this info? I booked NH7 for March but all the dp I saw online is the old cabin

Looks like they no longer offer the Suite on this Route. Tokyo Haneda (HND) to San Francisco (SFO) for NH107/108 — all frequencies until December 31, 2023

Hi! For the "Tokyo Haneda (HND) to San Francisco (SFO) for NH107/108 — all frequencies until December 31, 2023", any idea why this is ending beginning 2024?

We're booking for January and can't find many The Room flight routes from the US to/from Tokyo, except for HND to JFK. Can't find an answer anywhere why the Room for 2024 routes are so limited starting in the new year.

it’s on the narita route, you’ll find one flight per day SFO-NRT

I recently flew ORD-NRT in the old business class, which had to have been ANA's oldest remaining 77W. Having flown The Room a few times (and even the current product, but on newer 787 jets), it was a huge let down. Felt almost third-world.

What would be a good way to watch for award availability now thst expertflyer no longer has access to inventory?

I remember a HND-ORD flight last December I was on swapped from the old 777 to the new 777 about a month prior to the flight. I was expecting something bad when I saw the email, but it was a nice surprise and a good complement to the JFK-HND First class I took on the outbound which let me compare the two products.
A more recent ORD-HND flight was the old 777.

Does anyone know why there doesn't seem to be any First class flights between Japan and Australia?

JAL used to have F between Tokyo and Sydney for the Sydney summer season. It was always comparatively easy to get awards and upgrades, meaning there was little cash demand.

First class on the A380 between Honolulu and Narita isn’t marketed as The Suite but might as well be. New, very similar seat… with maybe just a slightly smaller TV but otherwise I can’t tell any difference.

Was lucky enough to catch points availability last month HNL-NRT. Between the seat itself, the full meal service, and the dedicated HNL first class lounge (nothing too memorable, but spacious and only a few other people in...

You may want to note the Pokémon planes.. JA784a for example is flying to ORD this fall. It was announced the other day

@ Emmett -- Good catch, thank you! Updated the post to reflect that.

How about the award availability? It seems like ana doesn't release far in advance and even last minute ones are very unpredictable

Flew in The Suite earlier in the year. Unfortunately it was a late departure from HND and the meal service was limited. For anyone trying to decide between the old first class and the new seat in first class, I would not recommend that they choose a flight that does not depart after 8pm local time so that they might enjoy the full 1st class meal service.

    1. CPH-Flyer Gold

The cut off for limited service is 10pm, not 8 pm

The video ads are getting bigger, Ben. It's nearly impossible to read an article on mobile, and now it's getting harder on a laptop screen.

Given what you bring the platform, use some influence to get them to stop.
