For the month of March, Etihad Guest is offering a promotion that can earn you bonus miles when you transfer points to the program from a partner, as flagged by Doctor of Credit.
In this post:
Earn bonus Etihad miles for points transfers
Between March 1 and March 31, 2024, Etihad Guest is offering up to 40% bonus miles when you transfer points to the program from select partners. The percent bonus you receive depends on the miles generated during the promotion:
- Transfer up to 10,000 miles and receive 20% bonus miles on each transaction
- Transfer 10,001-50,000 miles and receive 30% bonus miles on each transaction
- Transfer 50,001 or more miles and receive 40% bonus miles on each transaction
As you’d expect, there are some terms to be aware of:
- Once miles are transferred, the transaction can’t be reversed
- Bonus miles will post to accounts within 15 business days of March 31, 2024
- Validity for this promotion is determined based on the date of the transfer provided by the partner program
- You can’t combine this with any other transfer offer
Which transfer partners are eligible?
This is the major catch. While Etihad Guest has lots of transfer partners, only select partners qualify for this offer.
This offer excludes most credit card currencies in the United States, and it also excludes Marriott Bonvoy, which is the one hotel loyalty program where airline mileage transfers potentially represent a good deal.
Fortunately Capital One is participating in this promotion, meaning you could convert Capital One miles into Etihad Guest miles at a ratio of up to 1:1.4. Meanwhile Amex Membership Rewards and Citi ThankYou points aren’t eligible for this offer.
Bottom line
Etihad Guest is offering a promotion when transferring rewards from partners. You can receive 40% bonus miles if you transfer rewards in large enough increments from select partners during the month of March. Unfortunately many partners are excluded, so for most people in the United States, Capital One would be the one program where there’s potentially value.
This is quite a large transfer bonus. Just keep in mind that the Etihad Guest program is undergoing some changes, including a strict new mileage expiration policy plus a very hefty cancelation fee on awards. So I’d only take advantage of this with a specific use in mind.
Anyone plan to take advantage of this Etihad Guest promotion?
They have trashed their program. I will not be transferring any more points to them when they have a draconian expiry and reward cancellation policy. Also, on two out of the three times I have transferred credit card points to Etihad, the bonus did not arrive on time. On the third occasion the bonus points never arrived at all, even after multiple emails back and forth with customer services. Avoid.
With the recent changes, this is a program with too many problems to be bothered with. Stay away unless you must redeem points for a specific Etihad flight in a cabin that isn't available to any other mileage program.
After Etihad instituted its new draconian expiration policy and cancellation policy, buyer beware.
Ben, are you in Europe again? I am pretty sure it's like 02:13 AM Eastern right now!!
